Treasure

The museum holds one of the most outstanding golden findings of the Bronze Age: The Villena Treasure, dated in the year 1000 BC.

It was discovered on the 1st of December 1963 by Don José Mª Soler García.

The treasure consists of sixty pieces made from ten kilos of 24 carat gold, as well as an iron bracelet and pommel and three silver bottles that make up a unique group that has no possible comparison with any other known finds of the same date.

The treasure was carefully placed inside a vessel which was in a cavity excavated at the bottom of the stream. This fact states that it is a question of a hiding.
